1)Maintenance and Selecting
Tools to Repair Conveyor Belting
Conveyor belts
have a wide variety of applications in many areas. They allow objects to be transported over wide spaces, sometimes even between rooms, quickly and easily. Like any piece of machinery, a conveyor belt requires maintenance from time to time. When performing maintenance on a conveyor belt, it is vitally important that the proper tools are used.
Belt Cutters
Belt cutters are important tools when it comes to repairing conveyor belts. These tools are designed to cut quickly and precisely, and to avoid the sloppiness that can come with using cutting tools not specifically designed for cutting conveyor belts. Belt cutters are designed to cut belts up to 1 inch thick and 84 inches wide.
Belt Skivers
Belt skivers remove the top cover of the conveyor belt. Usually, the belt cover comes off because the belt needs to be prepared for countersunk fasteners. Using skivers helps to avoid making a mess out of the cover`s removal. Skivers remove the top cover in one large piece, an advantage over the other option, a router.
Fastener Installation Tools
Fastener installation tools ensure that the conveyor belt`s fasteners are properly placed in the belt. Performing this task properly ensures that the belt will have a long and productive life. Air-driven rivet drivers are used with only one hand at a time. These are used in tandem with collated rivets, which come in strips that are easy to install into the rivet driver.
Heat Sealers
Heat sealers are used to seal polytetrafluroethylene (PTFE) coated conveyor belts, like those used with fuse press machines, small laminators, and tortilla cooking presses. Heat sealers some in many different sizes and types, with different levels of strengths.
Tacking Irons
Tacking irons accomplish the same task as heat sealers, but are pressed onto small sections of the surface of the conveyor belt as opposed to swept atop it. Tacking irons are made out of either brass or aluminum.
Belt Repair Kits
Belt repair kits are designed to fix small sections of the conveyor belt. They come with patching materials, a high temperature work surface, and a lightweight sealing iron.
